SBCO aims to provide opportunities for musicians to play together – in regular instrumental practice groups, at occasional workshops, for performances involving small ensembles or full orchestra. Amateurs of all ages and stages are led by a small team of professional tutors who provide leadership, advice and inspiration.
SBCO also aims to encourage both existing and new audiences for classical music to enjoy a varied diet of performances – with recitals, chamber concerts, community and charity events, and at least two large-scale orchestral concerts each year.
Outreach is another important strand of SBCO’s work – with many of the players taking music into schools, hospitals, care homes and sheltered housing complexes in towns and villages throughout the Scottish Borders.
